October of 1954. Tim & Deb McKenney are the third generation of this radio family that started many of the radio stations in southwest Missouri and southeast Kansas. KOMB-FM signed on in February of 1981 at 3,000 watts on a 323-foot tower on the south edge of Fort Scott. We are now at 25,000 watts on a 385-foot tower on the north edge of Fort Scott, Kansas. KOMB FM airs hits from the 1960?s, 70?s, 80?s, 90?s & 2000?s. Our stations are very active in this community as well as in the surrounding communities we reach. With our power increase, we send a good signal into Bourbon County, Crawford, Cherokee, Allen, Linn, Miami, and part of Johnson counties in Kansas. Vernon, Bates, Jasper, Cass and part of Jackson counties in Missouri, and part of Ottawa county in Oklahoma. We carry a variety of local programming including news, weather, and sports, and air CNN news at the top of most hours. In addition, our stations are a KC Chiefs, KU Jayhawks, K-State Wildcats and KC Royals affiliate. KOMB-FM & KMDO-AM do regular on-air promotions, give-aways and contests to keep our listeners involved.
